Konkurrenz, Konflikt und Koexistenz werden hier als konstante Faktoren religiöser, politischer und kultureller Entwicklung im mittelalterlichen Europa erkennbar, das ein transkulturelles Umfeld des steten Austauschs darstellt und zugleich „Konfrontationskulturen“ beherbergt. In diesem Spannungsfeld entstanden Begegnungsräume und hybride Lebensformen, mit denen sich spezifische Momente der europäischen Kulturen herausbilden konnten. Die hier versammelten Beiträge des 15. Symposiums des Mediävistenverbands beleuchten im interdisziplinären conversation die Bandbreite dieser Dynamik.
